Hi all,
Welcome to 2018, we look forward to making this year a memorable food year for you. At Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School have a lot planned and will keep you updated through our newsletter. Over the next two months the cooking school has the following scheduled (see below for more details):

We are in the planning stages for a number of  cooking classes and food workshops for later in the year. These include:

  • Our ever popular series of meat curing and sausage making workshops, in the cooler months, from May onwards;
  • Food workshops with an emphases on skills training –  bread baking, cheese making and establishing your own food gardens, to name but a few;
  • Foods of the world cooking classes – from French bistro to pasta, Thai Street food and North African feasts;

With regards to the food calendar, this is the cooking schools favourite time of the year – figs are plump, sweet and juicy; the best of the peaches, cling-stone, are oozing with flavour; all the melons and smaller pumpkins are ripening; and the tomato bushes are groaning under the weight of the fruit. At the moment the cooking school kitchen is flat out bottling and preserving for the leaner months of the year. You too can enjoy these organically grown vegetables at our Mezze Country Lunches or for sale through our cooking school shop on the farm.

We will be slaughtering an ox in the next few weeks. Our meat is all hung for a minimum of 30 days. This means it will be ready during the month of March. Should you wish to purchase some of this meat once packaged please email me (earth@wickedfood.co.za) with your requirements and we will bare them in mind when we are ready to package.

This year for the first time we will be selling Garlic seed. For the last 6 years we have been growing garlic organically at Wickedfood Earth. This last season was particularly good and thus we are able to a sell a  limited amount of seed in bags of 100 at R100 per bag. A great winter crop, planted in late March, for harvest around September. Each seed should give you a head of garlic, that’s 100 heads of garlic which will last you for at least 6 months and give you enough seed to plant the following year.

On a sad note the Wickedfood Cooking School in Sunninghill was forced to close in mid December due to an ongoing dispute with the landlord which they were unable to resolve. Wickedfood Earth Farm and Country Cooking School however continues to operate as a separate entity and grows from strength to strength with your ongoing generous support. We hope to welcome you and your friends at one of our events in the near future.

Have a great food year
Mike and the Wickedfood Earth Team
