Sixty billion animals are farmed for food worldwide every year – the vast majority of them reared intensively in systems that seriously impact on their welfare. At Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School we strive to make their lives better through humane farming practices. All our animals live outdoors, as they have for thousands of years. They are veld-raised with no growth hormones or routine dosing of antibiotics. At the moment we farm with: 

Sheep – we run a small breeding herd of indigenous Pedi sheep. It is an easy sheep to farm with and produces good quality meat as well as a distinctive hair hide. More…

Cattle – a mixed herd of Jersey and Dexter cattle, which we slaughter, and process in-house to ensure that we have complete traceability of all our meat.  We also buy in carcasses from local ethical small-scale farmers in the area. All the cattle that we use are veld-raised, and completely free-range, using no routine antibiotics and growth hormones or stimulants. More…

Pigs – We have a small drove of free-range pigs as an important mix of our farming model. Not only do the pigs supply us with meat for processing, on our very popular Charcuterie Workshops, but they also assist with various aspects of the farm including tilling areas of land that we have earmarked for crop cultivation. They live outdoors and are not confined in small cages or overcrowded barns.  More…
